How can massage therapy support your healing?

When thinking of healing, it’s important to take your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being into consideration. And Massage Therapy at Touch Body Mind takes this holistic approach.

Physical well-being
Massage therapy such as Remedial and Relaxation massage can stimulate our physical body’s natural ability to heal itself. For example our immune system can be improved by reducing cortisol, a stress hormone believed to repress cells that fight viral, bacterial or cancer cells. And our parasympathetic system (rest and repair) can be activated and sympathetic (fight, flight or freeze) reduced, assisting our bodies in returning to and maintaining homeostasis (stability).

Emotional and mental well-being

The initial reason I started seeking massage was to assist with relaxation and reducing stress. It’s well known for this, as well as reducing anxiety, depression and promoting better sleep quality. This is aided if you’re feeling safe and comfortable in the massage environment, and feel-good neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine and endorphins are released.

Studies also indicate that massage may contribute to improved cognitive function and memory. Therefore allowing for better awareness and processing when it comes to emotional and mental well-being, on our healing journeys.

Spiritual well-being

On a more spiritual level I believe massage therapy provides you with an opportunity to cultivate body-awareness, self-knowledge and practice mindfulness. All which help you uncover or connect back to who you are.
